Clinical health psychology

Our team of psychologists helps patients aged 17 and over to better adapt to and manage the psychological impact of a variety of chronic illnesses, including sleep disorders, diabetes, chronic pain, heart disease, lung disease and inflammatory bowel disease. We also help patients manage the stress associated with upcoming medical procedures (e.g., decision-making support, psychological preparation for surgery or other medical procedures that may generate stress or anxiety). Interns and doctoral-level residents in clinical psychology provide the majority of services under the close supervision of certified psychologists.

In addition to our commitment to clients aged 17 and over, our team also works with children, adolescents and their families. These services focus on attention-deficit/hyperactivity difficulties, learning difficulties, behavioral difficulties, anxiety and depression.

Psychological services mainly include assessment, consultation and short-term treatment. Interventions are tailored to the needs of individuals or groups. Health psychology consultations are also offered to health professionals and care teams.

We accept requests for consultation from specialists and care teams in ambulatory care clinics, as well as from family physicians with privileges at Hôpital Montfort. These requests should be faxed to 613-748 4985.

In conjunction with the pediatric clinic, psychological services (assessment and treatment) are offered to children, adolescents and their families. Some interventions are offered on a group basis as part of clinical trials. Services focus on attention-deficit/hyperactivity difficulties, learning difficulties, behavioral difficulties, anxiety and depression.

The pediatric psychology service does not accept external referrals.

You must be referred by a Montfort pediatrician to obtain services from this clinic.

The Community Stepped-Care Telehealth Program is an innovative program that responds to the critical need to provide French-speaking minority communities (FMCs) with better access to evidence-based psychological interventions.

Stepped care is a judicious approach to improving access and the quality of services offered to people who are affected by disorders frequently encountered in primary care, such as anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, and the psychological challenges associated with living with chronic physical illnesses.

Academic activities

Our clinical health psychologists are clinician-researchers with university affiliations as clinical or assistant professors (University of Ottawa, Université du Québec en Outaouais).  The team of psychologists actively contributes to Hôpital Montfort's university mission through their research, teaching and clinical supervision activities.
